A fracture occurs when a person has cracked or broken one or more bones in their knee joint. If the bones are not out of place, it’s possible to not need any surgery with the help of physical therapy. A cast or splint will be put on their knee to limit the movement in their leg, which should take about 6 to 8 weeks to recover.
Injury to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
This is a common injury among athletes that happens when they suddenly change direction, slow down, land wrong from a jump, or receive a hard hit to their knee. Physical therapy should be attempted before surgery to possibly avoid the procedure. Depending on the severity of the injury, the recovery can be anywhere between 6 to 8 months.
